Map update: new look and feel for increased clarity. Plus more neighborhoods for San Francisco

We made some changes to the map, based on what we've been learning and hearing.

If you've opened Foggy lately, you might notice the map looks a little different. (You don't need to update the app. We made an update to our MapBox styling so you will see this in Foggy next time you open it.)

What changed? First, we played with contrast in an effort to keep making it easier to tell fog, land, and water apart. We also made some adjustments to outlines, density of number of roads, and the color of bodies of water which have a bluer tint now.

In San Francisco, we also worked on neighborhood names. You may be familiar with the variety of opinions people can have on neighborhood boundary definitions and even what neighborhoods are called. Since people sometimes see neighborhoods a little differently, we've added more nuanced ones to Foggy’s map. The richer neighborhood names show up in community reports too. We added waterway names as well, so your report from out on the water now gets named properly.

All of this comes from what we've been learning and hearing from you. We'll keep iterating, and we'd love to hear what you think. If you are enjoying what we added, something looks off, or if all this sparks an idea, let us know.
